        Re: Epoxy Checkerboard Shop/Garage Floor

Hey this is great information!!! My garage/shop is under construction and I am considering using epoxy for the floors in a black & white checkerboard pattern. Obviously, slab preperation is the key for all epoxy floor coatings. Does anyone have experience with the pattern application?
        Thanks, Kent #6201

          Re: Epoxy Checkerboard Shop/Garage Floor

Given how epoxy is mixed and applied, I would think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain the desired results. I can't remember seeing an epoxy floor in something other than a solid color, or with some flecks added. Tile might be a better choice for a checkerboard floor pattern. If a tile were to get damaged you could easily replace it.

I have used system by Ameron. Epoxy and urethane combination. Has been down 5 years in my shop with NO peeling or lifting. If anyone is interested I can get the product numbers

Right on Dick. I should have mentioned the combo option in my previous thread. Again, preparation of the sub strata is the key here. Do not contaminate the exposed pores of concrete and make sure to cure. Also, ask for a good 4" border or cove. It will be like a bathtub after.
