    Delco Reproduction Battery....

I just got a new dated repro Delco R-59 Energizer battery for the '67 from Restoration Battery in Cincinnati. They are a pleasure to deal with. Too bad all the vendors can't be as courteous and helpful as they are.

Anyway, my question is there is white caution sticker on the top of the battery which goes around the positve pole and says ...."Danger/Poison, do not remove this sticker". Is this a modern day federal regulation warning which I should remove for the sake of authenticity or did these batteries actually come with that sticker in '67? Thanks

Why Doctor, I thought you were my friend, so why do you treat me like this? Why don't you just answer the question instead of harrassing me?

Doctor, that's not really true, I just made the story up, so will you have a beer with me? I'll buy!

Patrick, In all the years I have seen new car batteries, I have never seen such a sticker. It's probably the battery equivalent of those labels on your mattress.

Next they will have one that says: "The Surgeon General has determined that ingestion of contents of this device may result in severe gastro-intestinal trauma and may result in death or disability. Pregnant females should be particularly careful not drink contents."

Just before I tossed it in the trash, I believe I would call Restoration Battery on their parts ordering line to make sure that it was simply our politically correct tax dollars at work protecting the maroons among us. Probably it's just our present-day over-protective government trying to anticipate what any fool would do.

Come on now Geoffrey, don't candy coat your feelings here.

All that crap aside, I too purchased my battery from Restoration Battery, and they are indeed a pleasure to deal with. When I offered to pre-pay for my batt, he would not hear of it, and simply told me to check it out, fill with acid, and after I was completely and totally satisfied, remit payment with the invoice.

I do not believe they have an 800#, the number I have is 513-451-1038, and he does not accept credit card payments.

                    cheers,
                    Gregg

                        Patrick:

How can you say "Let your estate worry about it". Your heirs may not know or be in a position to do something about this. For example, (and I hope this does not happen to you), what if you are driving your car tomorrow and are involved in an accident where you are killed? The car is totaled and your heir(s), in their time of sorrow want to be rid of the car. It is quickly sold.

Someone later resurrects the wreck using this documentation. Would you not be upset by someone doing this with documentation that was created out of "principle". In my opinion, the state of MD was doing a service.

I agree with what others said. Even if it was not intentional on your part, this is how cars with bad documentation get into the system. If it were me, I would accept that I made a mistake and go back to the State of Maryland and fix this.
