I removed the oil filter cannister on my 63 and want to be certain I am not missing any parts. A previous post stated that there is some type of spring/washer assembly inside the cannister that holds the filter element in place. All I have is the long bolt. Am I missing something here ? Thanks !

Re: Oil Filter Cannister 63
Peter,
Yes you are missing the spring and washer these were used in all canister type filters. Without them there is nothing to hold the element against the bypass valve. I'm not certain, but I would think that without the spring and washer you would not be filtering the oil properly or at all.

Re: Oil Filter Cannister 63
Peter,
There should be a snap ring groove in the bolt a couple inches from the head. The spring and washer are held against the bottom of the can by a funky looking snap ring. (doesn't look to easy to remove by the way)
If you are missing these, you may want to snag the entire canister assy if you find one at a salvage.
These also occasionly come up for sale on eBay and typically sell around 10 bucks. Just make sure you ask the seller if it's all there. Expand your search to include other Chevy makes. (not just Corvette)
