Casting # ?

[Mike #27545]

I recently came across a big block motor with casting #3999289 and a date code of H3071. The pad was blank and the block had never been decked. Any idea what this may have come out of or if Chevrolet used this as a warranty block.

Any help would be appreciated.

this block was used from 1972/78 454 2 and 4 bolt mains

The origin of this block was likely as a SERVICE replacement bare block, fitted block, or partial engine (short block). All of these were supplied with "clean" engine pads.

agree with joe. just foir kicks, take a look mat the machined oil pan rail and see if there is stamp data there.post if there is thanks, mike

Thanks guys. Mike, I won't be able to look at the block until later this week. I'll check for numbers then. What will these numbers be?
