    1968-1982 Specifications Guide Question

In looking for casting numbers for a big block cast iron intake manifold, #3955287 I noticed that for 1970 this number was dedicated to an aluminum intake, and for 1971 this same casting number was used for a cast iron intake.

Is the 1970 casting code in error or was there actually an aluminum intake with the same casting number?

    Just curious.

287s are both Cast iron. The only alum. intake for big blocks was on the 71 LS-6.,& small block LT-1s

Same type of error exists in the '53-'62 Spec Guide for '62 intake manifolds - it shows the 3799349 as aluminum for '62 (incorrect) and as iron for '63 and '64 (correct). I passed the info on to Gary and Eric to note for the next printing.

          Bob-----

Yes, the GM #3955287 was the cast iron big block manifold used for both 1970 and 1971 Corvettes with LS-5, as well as most other Chevrolet big block applications during that period.

As far as the 1970 and later period goes, the only aluminum manifold used on a big block was for the LS-6. However, 4 barrel manifolds used on all 68-69 Corvette big blocks were aluminum.

Thanks for all the good info folk, too bad this master cylinder doesn't fit the mold so to speak.

            Thanks again.
