I hooked up a tachometer to the engine in my '64 a couple of weeks ago and it was several hundred RPM off from the tach in the car. Is this a common problem? Are there gears akin to speedo gears that can be changed to correct the problem?

Re: C2 Tach Accuracy
Gain error can be reduced by a competent speedometer shop by alterning the flux of the head magnet. This can be done to either a speedometer or a C2 type mechanical tachometer, but will require that you remove the cluster in
order to remove the speedometer.

Just curious. Did the error show that the tach in the car was reading too high or too low? Certainly a low reading is worse than one that is too high. There is more potential to damage the engine.
I may have a similar problem on my '64. I need to hook up my engine analyzer and check it out.- Top
