    Owner's packet contents

Good evening to all. Sorry to say the Steelers just lost in overtime!

I received an early birthday present today from the previous owner, in the mail today. I got my original 1972 owner's manual in its plastic envelope, with the Consumer Information bookelet and the trim ring instructions. It also contained the Emission Control Systems booklet. In addition, I also got some PO history, addresses, titles, and such.

My question concerns the plastic envelope that all of this came in. The repro that is in my car, in storage, has Chevy logos on it. This one is clear plastic but of the right size. The 1970-72 TIM&JG doesn't address the actual envelope other than to say it is plastic. Should it have logos and other information on it or should it be clear, as mine is?

    Thanks to all.

What you got no logo is correct for all 1973's so it may be ok for 1972. I don't know when the change was made.

The change began with the 1972. 1971 was the last year with the key logo.

          Re: Owner's packet contents

Thanks to all of you for your responses. It makes the package that I have just a little more special. The sad thing is he has the POP but he is so disorganized, by his own admission, that he can't find it or the seat shims!

Reba, if this changeover occured between the 1971 and 72 years, is there a reason that it isn't in the TIM&JG? Is this being considered for the rewrite of the 70-72 JG? Did you gain this knowledge by observing or is this written somewhere? Thanks again - I REALLY appreciate it.

            GARY,

THE P-O-P SHOULD BE ADHEARED TO THE BACK INSIDE COVER PAGE OF THE OWNERS MANUAL UNLESS REMOVED FOR WHATEVER REASON. IF YOU WERE UNAWARE OF THIS, MAYBE CHECK TO SEE IF IT'S THERE, IF YOU WERE AWARE OF IT'S PLACEMENT AND IT IS NOT THERE,THEY SOMETIMES, AFTER USE,WOULD LEAVE A INK IMPRESSION ON THE OPPOSITE PAGE. IF SO, AND IT IS READABLE YOU CAN AT LEAST RUN THE NUMBERS ON THE CAR. JUST A THOUGHT, AS I HAVE ACTUALLY DID THIS WITH TWO CARS.

Gary, look on top of page 17 in the last edition of the JG. After a very complete description of the 1970-71 envelope, it says that the 1972 envelope has no lettering.

Oops. As usual Reba, you are right on the mark. It's called "lazy reading".

Gregg, the POP is definetly no there. As I mentioned, in discussions with the PO, he knows he has it, just can't find it.
