    Body Id plate info.

Two questions, on the body id plate there is a style number, mine is 67 467, is the first number the year? My understanding is that the second is for a convertible. Second question, what is the best way to determin the options that a mid 60s corvette was delivered with? For example motor, trans, PS, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Brian----

No, "67" does not refer to the year. 1965-1971 Corvettes used a VIN coding system in which the first digit("1")denotes Chevrolet;second digit("9") denotes Corvette model; third digit("4")denotes a V-8 engine; fouth and fifth digit denotes coupe or convertible("37"=coupe;"67"=convertible). The sixth digit denotes the year model with the last digit of the year("5"=1965, "6"=1966, etc). The body, paint, and trim plate(body ID plate) contains a 3-digit derivation of the above system for body "style".

        Brian,

You answered your first question correctly. The "67 467" means 1967 Corvette convertible.

For your second question, the answer is definitely the "tank sticker" for a '67. The tank sticker is the "build sheet" that was glued to the top of the gas tank (on the left side) of all Corvettes starting with model year '67. If it's there you should be able to see it from the gas door by sliding the rubber boot off to the side (I can see mine). You may be able to make out some of it, but probably not all of it. All options should be listed with codes.

Thanks for the info, although I have gotten two different answers, the reason that I am asking is because my car is a 65 with a vin tag that states a 65 but the trim tag has the 67 as the style code. Also thanks for the info on the gas tank, is it the same for a 65?

                Joe,

I guess my earlier posting could be wrong (although I don't believe so), but if so what is your explanation for the first "67" in the "67 467" ID on the trim tag. Two days ago I looked at a '65 convertible where the trim tag Style read "65 19467". What else could it be?

                    Correction to Above Post

                    Brian----

I'm sorry; I misinterpretted your question. I thought you were asking if the "67" in the "467" sequence referred to model year. John Rohe is correct.

                        Brian,

The "tank sticker" didn't start until '67. I won't be able to help you out any further (if I've really "helped" at all here) with regards to options.

I'm sure there will be many additional postings now to help clear up the mess that I've started. I am still very NEW to the Corvette hobby. But every car that I've seen the trim tag on (all 1965's - 1967's) agreed with what I said earlier. Then again, I'm not dealing with a very large sample size either.

                        HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John R.

My trim tag and vin tag completely match the car and the car appears to be original, the only discrepancy is the first 67 in the style code. Everthing else on the tags matches the car exactly and the tags do not appear to have been tampered with. My vin tag and title and appearance of the car say it is a 65, the trim tag says 67. I am not that concerned I am just curious.
