Took me a while to get signed into the new TDB but I’m in. My first post was going to be a reply with photos but both photos I tried to attached said they exceeded the 2MB size limit. I have posted many photos to the previous TDB without having this issue. Any chance of getting this changed ?? It can be very difficult to post or answer a topic without the ability to show photos. Photos were taken with the same device and procedure as previous, please advise.
New Photo Size Limitation ??

Okay, just tried to post photo as an attachment to this reply and received this error message
File exceeds PHP’s file-size limit of 2.00 MB
Photo would not post.
I do see a new option of Upload or Select from Photo Album. The Album contains all of the photos I previously posted back before the update. The photo I tried to post here was done with the Upload function.

John,
Sorry, appears there's a new file size limit of 2 mb we're going to have to follow.

John,
In most cases the human eye can't tell the difference between 1 mb and 4 mb photo.
Difference would show only in high resolution printing.
On a side note, NCRS is running out of server disk space, so photo size reduction will help with that.

This image was 6.1 MG and when uploaded it was reduced to 1.37 MG 800x600 pixels in size. I changed the upload_max_filesize to 8MG. We will see how that works.
Remember that newer cameras and phones can take 10 MG images. You may have to resize them still before you can upload them.

John, thanks for the reply and making the update to allow 4mb photos. I think the biggest challenge going forward will be the minimum resolution of newer digital cameras. We have 3 at home and their minimum resolutions are 8, 12 and 16 MP. Time will tell.1973 L82 M21 4 Speed, very original and well documented driver/survivor

John,
I use Photoshop so it is relatively easy for me to reduce the size of pictures.
You posted these file sizes:
4.4 MB 2815x3527
2.4 MB 3000x3343
3.6 MB 3833x2735
3.3 MB 3693x2821
The largest pixel size you show is 3833 px. That is 53.236 inches wide. Great if you want to print a billboard, but on the webpage 800 px is as large as you want to go. Otherwise people have to scroll left and right and up and down to see the entire picture. The picture I posted above it 800 px wide.
When you reduce the pixels you reduce the size of the file as well.
To reduce a photo's file size on Windows, you can use the Photos app, Microsoft Paint, or Microsoft Picture Manager:- Microsoft Paint
- Right click on the photo and select Open with
- Select Paint
- Click the Resize option or press Ctrl and W
- Microsoft Picture Manager
- Select the photo you want to compress
- Click the Picture Tools Format tab
- Click Compress Pictures - Compress won't necessarily reduce the file size that much
- Photos app
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the photo folder
- Right click on the photo and select Open with
- Select Photos
- Click the three dots menu and select Resize
- Use the quality slider to reduce the photo size
- Use the Preview app
- Open the image in Preview
- Select Tools > Adjust Size
- Select Resample image
- Enter a smaller value in the Resolution field
- Use an online tool
- Choose a desired aspect ratio and compress to any size
- Download the resized image
- Upload the image to an online tool like Adobe Express or Shrink.media
You can also compress a file on a Mac by:- Navigating to the file in Finder
- Control-clicking on it and choosing Compress
- Waiting for the file to be compressed
JPGs are a good choice for storing and sharing images because they maintain reasonable image quality at a relatively small size.
