Why not consider bringing back the old NCRS General Discussion Board...

a lot of us remember the section that was on here in the early 2000's? That's how I found out about the NCRS in the first place and I joined. It was lightly moderated and sort of OT at times. I don't see anything wrong with that. It seemed to me that this old Forum was almost always packed with prospective members always asking questions and NCRS membership was optional and most of all, it was kept simple with no 30 day limit.

Every other Corvette website that I know of currently has a sub Forum like this and it could potentially boost membership here. What is there to lose? It worked before and it could work again; we need to constantly keep the NCRS up with the times. JMO, Patrick

Ask your regional director/rep to bring it up at the next National Board meeting.

Is the next board meeting in March? Would have time to get it on the agenda for discussion.

Keep it the way it is. I, and most everyone I know, avoid those "other forums" because of the drama, post *****s and basically bad info. spread by "internet experts" with zero real world experience (even thou some post here). Let's keep this "technically oriented" and leave the crap to those other forums.

Well what would the NCRS internet Cops do if they were not monitoring this board??????

That would let them out in society and riots would break out everywhere!

Unless I'm reading Patrick wrong, the general discussion board would not replace this one, it'd just make this one more strictly technically oriented by giving members a designated place to discuss stuff relative to the club, shows, general Corvette info, and such... Nobody here would be required to go there, so I don't see why guys on this board would have to be concerned with any "crap" going on there.

              I'm in favor

Re: Why not consider bringing back the old NCRS General Discussion Board...

If I remember right, the administration just got plain tired of trying to control the fighting and flaming that occurred on the general board. I don't blame them. It can be a full time job trying to keep a forum under control if it doesn't have hard and fast rules. The Tech Board has been a friendly place to visit where most everyone acts like a grown-up. The General Board wasn't always like that.

I would suggest that if you want the General Discussion Board to return several of you need to step up and volunteer to be moderators. There would need to be enough that no one person would feel like he needed to be online 24/7 watching for crap to happen. The people running this site have enough to do without policing another board where the rules are not as strict and more arguments are likely, as it was before.

It would be a good way for some members to step up and become more involved in the organization. Run it by the board and see what they say.

                  Tom

I also remember the old general discussion board. There were some good posts about Corvette personalities, news events, and other things of interest that were not strictly technical. The other forum gets a bit out of hand with some snarky comments about other posters. I believe
NCRS people have a bit more "class" and can discuss general topics in good taste.

That is a truly remarkable, incongruous statement - from someone who regularly and vociferously uses the "other forums", particularly the Corvette Foramen to the tune of 8,000+ aphorisms and uses the "anonymous" screen name 1snake on that vaunted chat room. Is that you? Are you that snake ?

I apologize for my humble error - it is actually a mere 6,747 aphorisms.
                          Just setting the record straight.

Yup, that's me. The name, 1snake, came from owning a 1965 Cobra, one of my favorite cars. If you'll notice, I quit posting on the CF a while ago. As far as post count, my 6,700 posts in 10 years were mostly offering advice from my ACTUAL experience of owning and restoring many Corvettes over the last 40+ years unlike those on the CF that have 35,000-50,000 posts who are only recent Corvette owners or have never owned one at all and simply regurgitate what they read on the internet. I only post advice/comments on what I have actually done. I wish others would do the same. Regardless, the point of my reply was to simply state that this should be a "technical only" forum, which this topic doesn't fit into.
