Re: Glass polishing that REALLY WORKS!!

Hey - I hope it works like a miracle - just sharing experience from somebody that used a professional kit as well as using a professional expert - so I've seen both sides. I would take issue with 'no distortion' (reread Rich's #71 post); again how much you can minimize that determines the result...if you can fool the eye then you're home free!

        Rich,
Seems to me that all I would need is the abrasives as I have the equipment I see in the add. Can you buy the abrasives only? And can you describe the grit of the sand paper?

          Bob and Domenic,

This is a seven year old thread that I revived to ask if anyone has tried this product. Rich, the OP, hasn't posted on the thread since then, so you may not hear from him.

Dom- I have looked at their website, and yes, you can buy the abrasives and wheels separately.

          Has anyone used these products?

                What a deal.
Try Auto City Classic Glass and get all new dated glass for one third that price...
Or call www.superglass.com and have them come out and give you an assessment; a split window buddy just had them polish his original rear glass and it cost about $200. The fella is ecstatic because he thought sure he was gonna have to go with repro glass...

They polished wiper scratches out of my windshield prior to judging for $150...
And nobody is "learning on the job"....

I stated to red this thread from beginning to end but there was so much promising to show everybody the procedure I got tired of being teased--JUST GET TO IT!
I skipped to the end and the OP never indicated that he ever actually DROVE the car at night to report distortion or glare. What a waste to time and space.

You, I and a whole of others have read through this. It's one thing to polish up and get a good reflection, and another matter altogether to get distortion-free results for when looking through the glass. I suspect its impossible to achieve good results over the entire surface and since you never know what aprt of the windshield you will need to look through, it probably better just leaving well enough alone.

I sat where you would driving the car and had one of my employees take a drop light and flash light and run the full length of the field of view and the was no distortion or "dancing" of lights.
This windshield was an extream case with all the deep nicks and chips, I spent 10 or so hours sanding the entire surface with 80 grit paper. Most windshields just have some marks left by the wipers and that will not take 1/3 the time to remove. And even with all the sanding of this windshield you have to really look and chatch just the right angle to see any distortion. The 2 pictures taken in the dark ar very fuzzy and out of focus I just wanted to let you see how I ran the light across to check.

On 12-16-2009, the OP reports good results with no distortion. So I'm hopeful, but wanted to hear feedback from other users.

                          Frank,

Thank you for the SuperGlass recommendation. I called a local franchise in North Texas. My windshield had several bad wiper scratches and other defects. After three hours and $250, the original windshield looks great. Some pitting remains, which isn't bad for 48 year old glass.

Below is a "before" photo of the glass, and images of the tools he used. See next post for more photos.

Interesting business model- SuperGlass repairs but does not replace/sell glass. They apparently do a lot of work for dealers.

In this photo, the upper scratch has been polished (where the light is reflecting). It looks great with no distortion. Towards the bottom of the glass you can see a hazy area where the lower scratch was sanded with 500, 1000 then 2000 discs. It's ready to be polished.

I have a couple of mp4 videos showing the process; I'll see if I can figure out how to share them.

If you're in North Texas, I highly recommend Carlos with SuperGlass at 940-205-3136.

Glad it worked out - I've recommended them to prob a dozen people and every single person was delighted with the outcome....
Considering the amount of work and expertise involved the price is very reasonable IMO...
