    Fenwick,

What display mode are you using? I think if you change display mode to Linear, it may solve the issue you are having.

After you click on a thread, there is a menu on the right and display mode is one of the choices.

This is not a lick and a promise kit you can get off the internet. I have tried those only to be completly let down. If you take the time you can do distortion free repairs that are undetectable with this kit. Also I have removed grooves that were WAY deeper than 1/32". I have NEVER been able to do that before.
This process is not for the local cruse night car it is for someone that wants to retain as many original parts on thier car as possible. I have used many repro windshields and let me tell ya NONE of them fit like and original. I have had glass that was 3/16" to wide or the shape was not right. Try fitting the mouldings on one of those!!
This is not for the guy that just wants to have a top flight, this is for the owner that is looking to do whatever they can to move from a 99.7 to a 99.8 or better at a national. (obviously this alone won't do that but it is the sum of decisions like this that will do that).
I have had many many customers whose cars I restored and There is just a select few that would have decided to do this if I had the ability when I was restoring thier cars.
This is someting that will help me make better cars for my customers. It is also something that a group of friends can split the cost on. If you add up the price of all new glass on each car you do it ain't cheep and this could save money for them plus let them also be able to retain the original parts.

I used to walk by used glass at swap meets but now I will start buying them and polish and sell them. wouldn't it be cool to be able to buy an original dated windshield, vent window, side window or back glass for your car?
Anyhow enough rambeling on my part. I was just very excited to find this product and wanted to share.

You more or less said it...it's a professional tool that will give professional results. Professional tools are always expensive. The hobbyists (sp) will have to decide if it's worth the extra money.

I also agree, this is a system geared toward the professional, not for the hobbyist. Rich is enjoying it and thats what matters.

Rich, ever think about polishing some glass as a service on the side? Perhaps recover some of the cost of the kit?

            Good luck!

              Steve,

since I have posted this I have had a few of my loyal e-bay customers ask the same question. I think that I will as soon as I finish these two sets. I have some original 63-72 glass that I will polish and sell to also help recoupe the cost.

After a week and a 1/2 I was able to get back onto the rear window and finish it. It came out great! There is a VERY LARGE learning curve with this and every time I use it I find out more tricks and time savers. I will post some done pictures of the back window as well as some before shots of the windshield I am starting now.

I started on the windshield today. In the picture the masking tape marks some of the scratches and nicks. There are a couple hundred nicks over the whole windshield. I spent 5 hours sanding the passenger side and only have 2-3 nicks left to remove. I am using the 8" pad and methodicly working the entire surface down and not concentrating on the nicks and scratches. Doing it this way will help to minimize any distortion. I am still on the first grit paper. Once I finish removing the rest of the nicks I will move up to the next grit paper and the next and the the final grit paper. and then on to 2 stages of polishing. This car had significant hazing on the windshield the car spent its early life as an Air mans car in the Mideast.

                      Rich,
Please let us know if the windshield comes out with no distortions or if the tint is changed. I have my original windshield and would like to polish it if your results are successful.

This is something that a chapter could pitch in on and then lend to members for a week at a time.
Take a couple days off from work and return it...

I have reattached his pics in case others are having trouble finding them. very long COOL post...

                          Ian,

I had though the same thing. Also this would probably be a good class to have at a NCRS meet or at bloomington.

OK here are some pictures of the windshield in mid sanding. First I taped up the date stenciling so I would not forget and sand it . If you look at the close up pictures all the white spots are nicks or scratches that need to be remved. The other side was just as bad and is now 99.9% pit free.
