Re: Judging Guides and Color Pictures
I would implore those posting to please restrict comments to whether or not you are interested in moving the Judging Guides to a color photo format in printed form. As has been mentioned there are many other ways we could electronically use judging guides, but please make that a separate thread and discussion.
There have already been C4 Judging Guides in color, so there is precedent. In today's world printing in color is nominally different in price than black and white, and if printed rather than copied the quality is far superior. Currently many Chapters as well as the National print their newsletters in color format, and everyone has welcomed the change.
As one who has spent countless hours first on the 68-69 JG and now currently the 70-72 JG I can tell you that significant effort has been put into upgrading the photos to show clarity, correctness and color. Those of us on the committee bemoan the thought of all of our man (and woman) hours being wasted if the new JG goes into print as a copied B&W manual. While the purchasers will still benefit from all of the changes, I can tell you that the difference in photo clarity will change to being like seeing them through black-and-white cataracts compared to what those of us on the revision team currently view in our version.
In 2016 the technology exists for me to be able to print a professional quality color JG right here at home, bind it and ship it. Services also exist for Judging Guides to be remotely printed and drop shipped to purchasers at any time they wish. Both of these types of arrangements could be utilized by our home office to avoid the storage of manuals while keeping the quality at a level that the membership deserves.
None of us watches black-and-white TV any more, none of us even make photocopies when we can print a first copy from a file on our computer. I would suggest that opportunity exist to move our Judging Guides to the best possible format while keeping costs in line with what they've been for years.
