    1967 427CI Alternator Belt 3882814 Issues?

Has anyone had issues with the Quanta reproduction 3882814 alternator belt? My 1970 P & A states in Grp 1.066 that it's outer circumference is 56".

The new Quanta belt I have here measures 57" outer circumference, and I think may be the reason it looks like this......

    P1150016.jpgP1150017.jpgP1150018.jpgP1150022.jpg

I have maxed out the alternator tension on the brace.

Or could I have a wrong pulley? The WP pulley is a smaller diameter than the secondary(rear) groove. The WP pulley was on the engine before and has the correct part # stamped on it's hidden face.

The alternator pulley OD measures apx 3.2" using a caliper. There is no part# on it but appears correct. I could not find part# reference and diameter/groove depth info using my usual resource data. The belt appears to sit in this deep groove pulley a lot. Did I error somewhere?

The belt I removed from this engine was a NAPA 25-7550 which spec reads 55.58" OC, and it looks like this.....

    P1150024.jpgP1150025.jpg

The belt actually measures 56 1/2" likely from age. It's configuration appears normal to me.

Guidance appreciated....No archive data available here.

Rich, Cannot not speak much to the quanta belts, but I know there have been quite a few post about belt lengths not being correct, But I know that the Napa belt 7550 is really a 55" inch belt the last 3 digits as I remember are the length of the belt, Most V belts use this numbering system. the first digit is the belt width 7 is 3/8 and 9 is a 7/16ths width. I believe that right.

If you have AIM and have verified the correct pulley configuration then there's truly only one answer - Quanta has a problem.

Yes I agree about their numbering but the NAPA online spec states 55.58".

I'm thinking I have the wrong alternator pulley. Rats.

It's sitting too deep in this one. Here's a pic of another 427 I know well. See how the belt sits higher?

The 3829387 is the proper pulley, it's 3 5/8" diameter. The one I have is 3.2" so that's why the belt doesn't fit. I still don't like the belt as it's 1" too long.

Rich, just from looking at the amount of adjustment you have know, I am thinking with the correct pulley you should be fine with the current quanta belt .

Just got back with the correct pulley. I'll update later when I get it installed. I agree, it should be fine.

Nice 77* day here and no stinking rain so the carpeting is going in this afternoon.

But that Quanta 3882814 is still a darn inch too long.

I ran into the same issue with my Quanta Alt belt as well as the water pump belt is loose. there are two sizes for the water pump belt, the Long Version is 34.8, anyone know what the short version is? I plan on calling Quanta in the morning.

....and this one may sound familiar. It's when I, like you, discovered 2 versions of the same belt.

Great Thanks for the Information, I will get the 34.4, as I have an original pully.
