Ok, one more check of your fork......Joe Lucia pointed this out in his post noted earlier.

Measure the vertical width of the main arm as it enters the bellhousing.

Measure the vertical width of the fork at the clevis end.

If the measurements are not roughly equal, and the measurement inside the BH is noticeably wider, you don't have the right fork.

I fought with it more tonight.
        Some success I think.
Adjusted the gorilla spring all the way back toward the firewall.
Removed the zbar end of the clutch fork rod.
Reset the fork as it had moved outward again on the TO bearing.
I had to then adjust the swivel back up the rod to allow it to slip into the hole in the zbar.
Pushed the fork tight against the clutch and ran the swivel back down the rod two turns.
Reconnected the rod to the zbar. Have about 1/2" of threads left for adjustment.
The pedal now has about 1 inch of free play before resistance is felt.
The pedal goes to the floor and returns to the top on it's own.
Have not "test driven" it yet. Maybe tomorrow.
        Keep your fingers crossed.

Are you sure you don't have the "long" pivot ball from some of the later cars in there?

            Patrick -

The same fork ball stud was used from '57-'81 (#3729000).
