Correct Top Ignition Shield Bolt - 1964

Is the top ignition shield bolt on my '64 supposed to have an integral lock washer or an integral external tooth star washer? The current TGJM says it should be a recessed hex-head bolt with an integral external tooth lock washer.

I currently have a recessed hex-head bolt with an integral lock washer.

    Thanks,

    James West

James - The 63-64 Corvette AIMs call out SCREW ASM 423554 while the 65-67 Corvette AIMs call out SCREW ASM 423553. Interesting. I don't know what the differences in the SCREW ASM is but I can tell you that the top ignition shield bolts/screw asms on our 66 & 67 Base Engine Corvettes with U69 have the recessed hex-head with integral "wide-ear" tooth lock washer & the "RBW" headmark. Pete,

Does the hold down bolt look like this one that's on the ground strap and top ignition shield on my 67 300hp engine.

Tim, My 63 top shield bolt is like configured like yours only It has a (L) head mark. The ground strap bolt on accelerator lever is a 3/8's head self tapping style and no marking on the head of my bolt.

From memory, the ones for 67's are E, EL, L, as well as others. Configuration looks like the above pics. ARA

Tim - Yes. I guess the same person put them together on the line. It's interesting because the 67 AIM call out is for a separate SCREW #106962 & a separate Lock Washer 138489. Pete
