    Hi Dan,
The FI unit for 5109614 shows up in Jim Gessner FI list as being on another car. The unit is #2802 and was seen by Drew Papson on a 1965 blue/white & blue convert in Oct 2006
    Good Luck with your project.

      Page and fellow members,

I 1st contacted Jim Gessner back in Feb. 2011. He told me the car (it's unit) was already in the 65 FI registry. (I have a copy of the registry.) And that the unit was last noted on ebay on 9-24-2007. I was able to contact the seller, but not the buyer. The seller said (through an ebay email) he did not have the buyers contact information. Anyone know ebay "bowtiebobp" from Chesapeake, VA? He is still active on ebay. The buyer, from Oregon, has not been active on ebay since Dec. 2009 (but still a member). I have not been able to contact him through ebay. Any ideas on tracking down the unit??

What is an acceptable substitute for the unit?

Not sure what I am going to do with the car. The basic options: do what I have been doing for the past 38 years---store it; or, come up with a plan to do something with it. Has anyone come up with a good flow plan (or spread sheet) to try and build a budget to restore one? I can see a potential money pit unless I can reasonably forecast the cost to restore it. For example, what is the cost range (options) to find all that would be needed for the FI? And, how acceptable are those options? Another example is the exhaust manifolds (I think the right one is correct but I think I need the left; however, I might have one in my parts). If I would need to find a matching pair of exhaust manifolds??? (I did pick up some parts for it back in the late 70's).

Anyway, I am trying to come up with a plan for the car. Has anyone that has done this have some good advice? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Please get some paint remover and then maybe some naval jelly to clean it off. Scraping can do irreparable damage. Like Joe said, that car deserves to be restored. You say it needs a lot, and it does, but you are starting with a lot more than than most do. Enjoy the journey, Chip.
        Chip,

That pad has not been touched for over 38 years. If the pad is damaged, then it is damaged. The car was not being sold as a 65 FI car with its original engine. The guy (a young college student) that had it for sale did not indicate he knew it still had the original engine or what a 65 FI car was. (They were hard to find back in 1976 when I bought it.) Obviously, someone was interested in what was under the paint;---I was glad they did not buy the car.

That C is actually a G; part of the HG code for the L84.

Thank you for your suggestion, Dan

          Another question(s).

I bought this car in the north west. Anyone know who the Chevrolet dealers were in Salt Lake City back in 1965?

Back in 1977-78 I bought and traded parts (not for this car) with a guy from Salt Lake City. He had a black on black 65 FI coupe (he ran corvette side pipes on it).
(He knew my car (some of it's history?);---said it was from Salt Lake.) Anyone know this guy;---he would be in his 70's now?

          Thanks
