Judging of a non restored 67

Hi guys, I would like to take my newly acquired 67 roadster, to the Northwest chapter meet in Tacoma this August, someone before suggested that I could actually get it judged, even though it is basically in driver condition ( probably painted about 25 years ago, with new interior at the time) it has had a one piece front end put on , I assume because it had a mild front end collision, the frame is original and in great shape, never touched by the look of it. It has been repainted red, but was originally Silver pearl. The original engine is not in the car, although I have located it, ( I'll tell you about that later) i would love to have the experts go over it , but I thought NCRS judging was for survivors, and full blown restorations, there are tons of original parts on the car that I would love to have verified, but I don't know the protocol when it come to these judging meets, having never been to one, even though I was a member a few years ago, any advise would be appreciated.thanks,Dave

Dave, go have the car judged, you will learn a lot of valuable info towards restoring your car. Get ahold of the Northwest chapter and they will guide you thru the process.

"I thought NCRS judging was for survivors and full blown restorations."

Dave, NCRS is for 100% original cars and 100% restorations and everything in between. The best thing to do is to have a car judged BEFORE any restoration is undertaken. Many cars are restored with no thought for the originality that is lost.

      Download the judging sheets at
https://www.ncrs.org/membership/scoresheets.html and look at them. All sections and items are evaluated separately, so even if some things have been changed, all it not lost.

The NCRS Judging Reference Manual (available from Cincinnati) explains the judging process and the various awards offered.

          +1

By all means, get it judged. That will give you a good baseline and you can decide where to go from there.

NCRS Flight Judging is a thorough process that assesses a Corvette (currently '53-96 model years, and soon expanding to '97-99). The assessment compares the car, as presented on the Judging Field, to the factory standard. As much of that standard as possible is documented in the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide. As others have suggested, I would strongly encourage you to purchase the '67 TIM/JG off of the NCRS online store. It would also be good to get the assembly manual for the car. Between those two books, you will have a great foundation to see what the car SHOULD have been from St. Louis.

Once you bring the car through the judging process, you'll get all of the judging sheets back with the notes on it. Those notes will paint a landscape for you in terms of what you actually have. From there, you can use that landscape / baseline to decide what you want to do with the car long term. We have people who just want to drive their car, who want the highest level award winner, and everything in between. NCRS offers something for every car owner, no matter where they are on that spectrum.

thanks so much guys, I do have the newest edition of the judging manual , along with every other thing I could purchase from the website, that I thought would help me, I just didn't want to show up with my car and be laughed off the field because it was neither restored or a completely original survivor, there was a comment that I read earlier that said I should maybe start with a local chapter meet rather than a regional meet , which maybe makes sense, I am not sure, I just want the best people available to judge the car before I start restoring it.

I want to restore it to the highest level, get it judged, and then drive it on nice sunny days!

Re: Judging of a non restored 67

Dave, I, too, was reluctant for years to have my '66 L79 coupe NCRS judged for fear that the driveability mods I had made over the years would make it a poor candidate and incur the judges' wrath. I had installed a 5-speed overdrive, aftermarket side pipes and direct bolt-on knock-offs, Nardi wood wheel, distributor, coil, etc. On the advice of a friend who is also an NCRS judge, I was encouraged to enter my car in a Central Coast chapter meet but to keep my expectations in check - treat it as a learning experience. I did so, and was astounded when: (i) no judge took offense at any of my mods; (ii) the judging sheets taught me an enormous amount about what was right and NTP on my car for future improvement, (iii) and she Second Flighted w/87.4% overall! Where else are you going to get 6-10 experienced NCRS judges spend most of a day kneeling, leaning over, and under your car in a cordial and friendly atmosphere and then provide you with a detailed evaluation of all judged aspects of the vehicle for the nominal entry fee. Had I done that years earlier I might have deferred some of my mods and made some better choices. Nevertheless, I had a blast at the meet (NCRS/CCC Los Osos, May '13) and met a group of the most sympatico judges, members and owners that made the experience simply awesome - a life event. Follow the advice on this thread and take the plunge. Good luck.
