    68 Wiper wiring

I have an early 68 vette. I removed the wiper/washer wiring awhile back. I have a new harness that I'm attempting to install. I tried looking for wiring information but it doesn't show exactly where the wires connect to. Does anyone have pictures that they can post that shows where the connections are? I have a black ground wire that I can't figure where it goes. The old harness was butchered up and has no black ground wire. Also, there is a yellow and white cloth wire that are attached together. It looks like it would go to one side of the coil because there is nothing else around it. Would this be correct? Thanks for the help. John....

Have you tried either the assembly instruction manual or another resource? I have the Doc Rebuild wiring diagrams, they show you the wire colors and connectors. There are a few black (ground) wires in the engine harness. There is a ring terminal that goes on the starter ground bolt, a female blade connector that connects to a spade connector on the wiper motor and another female spade connector that goes to the blower motor.

As far as the cloth covered wire, this is probably the fusible link wire that goes to the coil positive. There are also blue and yellow wires with bullet connectors that goes to the windshield washer pump.

    Hope this helps.

Michael the cloth wire going to the coil is a resister wire that comes from the back of the fuse block and wrapped with tape with other wiring and goes to the coil. This resister wire replaces the ballast resister function that was mounted on the firewall of earlier Corvettes than 1968.

        Re: 68 Wiper wiring

Michael and Jim thanks for the help. I found a picture of a wiper motor that shows a spade connector on the wiper motor housing. My service replacement motor lacks the spade connector. So Jim the white cloth and yellow wire goes to the coil correct? Which side do I use?

Yes, it's a right angle male spade connector that mounts to one of the screws on the wiper motor and is a ground, I can't remember which screw but if you have a picture, then you'll be fine. Sorry I mis-spoke about the coil wires, Jim is correct it is not a fusible link but rather the resistor wire, not sure why my mind went that direction. The resistor wires should terminate at an open ended flat connector and attach to the positive side of the coil. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure if that right angle spade connector is available but I checked a wiper motor I had hanging around and there isn't one on there. I would have given it to you if it was there. I'm sure you can locate one though, even if it's not from a Corvette parts supplier.

Thanks for the info. I know the right angle spade connector is a part being offered for sale. I guess when replacing a motor, you have to remove the connector and put it on the service replacement motor. When I get the car running I'll post pictures of the wiring so others can use them for reference. John
