Would the tire tub lid be light gray or dark grey fiberglass for a late 65 sr#22192 I was thinking about having Sermershiems corvette make me one, also do you think it would judge well?

Re: 65 spare tire lid glass color
Sermershiems knows the correct color and should be an excellent choice. Also consider Scott Sinclair (NCRS guy who lives in Canada) as an excellent source, since he repairs old originals. He did mine for me and I was very pleased. He delivers to most NCRS Regional/National and major Corvette shows across the US.

EDIT: Picture of typical tub/lid. This one is 1963, but all C2 should be the same color glass. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-only-Co...deeb09&vxp=mtr- Top

Re: 65 spare tire lid glass color
Larry/John the upper tub I have and it is original the lower tray is the piece I was thinking about having them do, they have a light gray and a dark grey, to me most of the original ones I think look dark grey? Sermershiems did not say one way or the other if they thought it should be the light or dark, thanks for the thoughts and let me know if you would go light or dark.JR- Top

Is there supposed to be rubber cushions used in these bosses on early 63 vettes, I thought I saw that somewhere.- Top

Re: 65 spare tire lid glass color
Jim,
Definately do not have anyone to drill a hole in the bosses. The bosses are to keep the bolts from rubbing the tire as the real holes are drilled about 1 to 1 1/2 inch toward the center line of the tub beside the bosses.
There are four holes in the upper of the tub to hold it up when the door is opened and the tire is removed.

Re: 65 spare tire lid glass color
Jim,
I have restored many Tubs and lids. From 1963 to 1967 these units change in weight, color and most importantly the striated hairs that are visible in the surface. I have never seen a reproduced tub or lid that replicates the original look. Most of the units made today have a white core (visible on the edges) and a black gel coated surface.

Thank you,
