    Bought Another Disposable Car

Seeing many members opinion on ZR-1s as being infix able or disposable, I figured I'd double up and get another C4 clunker, a 1996 Grand Sport coupe #912. I hope to have it at the Texas Regional. All y'all can come by and laugh at me.

Agreed. 96 Grand Sports are no "clunkers" either. Nice double up.

Been driving my 96 for 235,000 miles and getting ready to drop a newer LT-1 in it from a 95 (less miles). Plan on getting another 100,000 anyway! Great ride and with a little tinkering it's gets 31mpg on the highway between LR and Mempho!

Just being younger-in-cheek! I heard all the rip when I bought my 71 LS-5 convertible back in 1986. Nothing but a boat anchor, floppy axle junk, just another Chevy. The best Corvette? The one I (or you) like enough to buy! The GS is going to be fun, I think

It will be. The LT4 is a trouble-free hoot.

                    Jim,
Buy what you want to own. My good friend tells me the story about bringing his 63 Split window home. Everybody laughed at him because they had all moved on to early C3 big block cars.
They told him the $1,200.00 he paid for it was wasted money. It is still sitting in his garage some forty years later. Seems to me like he got the last laugh in the matter.
The point is, we all want different things. If any one has anything negative to say about anything you own, to heck with them until they are offering money trying to buy the very thing they put down.
Enjoy your cars. You sure could have bigger problems.
                    Enjoy,
                    Monte

                      Monte,
If he bought the car for his own enjoyment he had a whole lot more laughs than the last one. However if mo' money was his goal, then he can (at this time anyway) laugh all the way to the bank -- but only if he sells it. My point is that one should buy a car for whatever reasons motivate one, and then enjoy the car or enjoy watching the green. One doesn't have the green until the car is sold.
The old expression "different strokes for different folks" still works, dated though it is. I am not in a position to evaluate anyone elses reasons for a car purchase.

Quote: "Enjoy your cars. You sure could have bigger problems." is spot on.

Anybody that needs to "dump" a Disposable Corvette can just dump it in my driveway. Be sure to supply clear title and/or sign the registration. I'm thinking the driveway will not fill up anytime soon............

                          Terry,
The real funny part about that story is, as the guys moved on to the C4 Corvettes, the same guy bought the 69, 400 HP, A/C roadster being sold to buy the C4.
It sits in his garage next to his split window and his 72, LT-1, A/C car that fell into his lap in early 73 because he did not like the new 73 front end.

The nice thing is, his is a great guy that will help anyone with anything on their cars. If one believes it or not, Karma works in funny ways.

We all choose to enjoy Corvettes. It sure would be boring if we all had the same exact car. There is someone out there for every Corvette.

We are a blessed crew to enjoying the things we choose.

We all have our own reasons for being in this hobby. I am sure this is a part of your identity as I know you have been helping a lot of people over the years.

My point was, at one point the 63 coupe was thought to be a terrible car and almost no body want to own them. Times change. What is not wanted or a throw away car today, might be a gem tomorrow.

                            Fellow NCRS members,

It seems to me that everyone wants the Corvette that was at the Chevy Store when they were in their teens. And yes my first Corvette was a 64 roadster with FI, ZO-6 brakes and 4.56 rear. I paid a whopping $250.00 for it and towed it home. Fixed it up and sold it for $1800.00. Next was my first 63 split window. Paid a whopping $1500.00 from the original owner and drove it home.

At the same time in Memphis, TN. 65, 66 and 67 big block roadsters were sitting on car lots and nobody would give them 2 to 3 thousand for them. The car salesmen could not give them away.

                            Times have sure changed!!!!!!

                            JR

PS. And no I had no idea what a ZO-6 brake system was!!!!!!!!
