1973 on EBay with YJ8 wheels

Currently listed on E bay is a 73 Coupe with YJ8 aluminum wheels.
    it is item number:121357873662
In the description, they state that the wheels were purchased from a dealership after the fact.
My question is that the "Fact Books" list 4 cars that were delivered with these wheels.
Have any of the 4 cars ever shown up for an NCRS event for judging?

By the way, this one listed has a 5/73 production date on the Certification sticker. If GM had issues with the wheels, early on, how did a set get sold so late in the model year through service parts?

    Ok, that's two questions.

Bob, The black book has a detailed description of the wheels and about the problems. it seems that the wheels that were released were recalled for leaks.

How do you know the wheels were purchased over-the-counter very late in the 1973 model year? They could have been purchased and installed much later.

That's a nice looking car from what we can see. However, I'd like to see photos of the chassis as well, and more of the engine compartment. There are plenty of details not yet seen.

My thought exactly, Joe. I know it says in the write-up that they were purchased late in the 1973 model year but where's the proof? Does seller have a dealer dated invoice? Somewhat suspect. No harm, no foul though as the original wheels and tires are included in the transaction price.

            I understand your point.
Im just going by the story in the listing.
I agree that the wheels could have been purchased at anytime in the past 39 years.

Seeing this listing triggered my asking if any of the cars that were delivered with the YJ8 wheels have ever shown up at an event.

There are pictures of the back side of the wheels that state "Kelsey Hayes" and "Made in Mexico" plus the lug nuts have black painted centers and not tapered on the wheel attach side. Are these in fact early wheels?

              Joe
went back to search 73 aluminum wheels. Your post from 2004 gave more insight that these are later produced wheels as the part number listed did not match what you stated were the early design.
              The archives really do work!

No 1973 M/Y cars as far as I know, although several sets of genuine '73 only YJ8 wheels have appeared over the years. All were over the counter spares from dealers. The wheels being offered in the eBay listing are for '76-'79 I think.

                  All------

The 1973 part number was GM #329381. This wheel appeared in P&A catalogs as early as January, 1973 but "disappeared" from the P&A catalogs by late 1973. It was officially discontinued without supercession in February, 1975. Apparently, some of these wheels were sold over-the-counter. This probably occurred because they were already in GMSPO inventory and the problems had not been communicated to GMSPO in time to withdraw them from distribution. That's just a supposition, though.

However, the wheels installed on this 1973 could have been a later C3 aluminum wheel. These wheels were all very similar.
