    Holley Metering Block Screwdriver

Anyone know a good source to purchase the special screwdriver used on the screws holding the metering plate inside the float bowel of the Holley end 2- barrel carbs used in the BB tri-power? I forget the name of the tool - been away from work too long, and the much hated Holley carbs.

It's called a clutch head screw driver. I bought mine many years ago from an auto supply store that sold Indestro tools. It was not considered a special tool for Holley carbs so there must be other applications out there.

Thanks for reminding me. Ah yes, the infamous clutch head. As I recall they come in many sizes and were often seen in places like door hinges, but generally in the automotive industry. I have a number of Holley " how to books"' but none mention the tool. Surely there are a few big block tri-power owners out there that have come up against this on one of their weekend projects that may have found one recently.

          Stu:

Any Tru-Value Hardware Store should have them. They are their "Master Mechanic" line of screwdrivers. I believe two sizes are available, so bring something (Holly part) to determine which one you need.

Thanks Dick and Larry. I'll see what I can locate. I'm hoping to wrap up my son's tri-power rebuild job as soon as this weekend.

Probably should have checked with him first as I believe these are used in aviation and he may have a set in his tools WE bought him when he took A&P at the then Institute Of Aviation @ U. Of I.. They are Snap On tools and he treasures them so he won't take them to his Corvette garage.

            Thanks again.

              Stu,
A small straight blade screw driver also works just fine. Be sure it fits inside the clutch head and your good to go. Bench grinder does the trick if it don't........

C1's have LOTS of clutch-head screws. Corvette Central sells a set of (4) that cover every size ever used on a Corvette.

                    Gene:

I took your advice and made a tool from a straight screwdriver. I got them all broke loose real easy. I checked with Corvette Central and they do list a set of 4 "clutch head" screwdrivers, but they (like True Value) have to order them. The earliest availability date was June 23. I can't wait that long. I have to have them done and running on the car this next week. My son has a potential buyer coming to look at the car (his 69 L-89) next week end.

Thanks to all for your valuable advice.

                    See Ya!
