67 Corvette Steering Coupler Orientation on the Steering Box

    Hi:
I am getting ready to install the steering coupler onto my steering box, and was wondering the orientation of the steering coupler from the factory. Was the small bolt orientated at the 3, 6, 9 or 12 O'Clock position? I'm using facing the input shaft, with the shaft at its centered travel position, and the steering box vertical in the same position it is installed onto the frame as a reference. I've included a picture to comment on, and appreciate any inputs. Thanks!

If I'm understanding what you're asking and looking at the attached picture...Using the picture as a reference point and assuming you're sitting in the driver's seat and looking through the firewall at your steering coupler it is situated correctly.

I hope this picture helps, it's the straight ahead position.

Thanks for the picture. It appears that the flat of the steering column shaft faces upward. My steering column is offsite, so this is just what I need. Thanks!

Here's what that coupler should look like with the wheels straight ahead and the chisel mark on the end of the worm shaft at 12 o'clock.

John,I recently had my '67 steering box rebuilt and looking at my rag joint it is installed exactly 180 degrees opposite your picture. I know yours is correct...my question is there any detriment to mine being installed as it is??thanks,Leif

Functionally, it makes no difference. The objective is steering system centering - with the front wheels pointing straight ahead, the chisel mark on the steering gear input worm shaft should be at 12 o'clock, and so should the chisel marks on the steering wheel end of the steering shaft and the steering wheel hub.
