Check out the AIM guide for Section L76 Sheet 2.00, (D302), V-8 Engine 327 Special High Performance Fan Belts & Pulleys. This is hard to interpret. I have never seen this, it looks like #3, 3829191 is an Idler Assembly, and the first grove closer to engine is for Crank, Water Pump and this Idler. Maybe I can check out some of these pat numbers???

OOPS, this is for the L76 engine not the L75 that I have, sorry about the oversight, must be old age setting in.

Dale, the single belt for both of the 250 and 300 hp hydraulic lifter engines, 63- 65, no A/C ran in the FRONT water pump & crank grooves not the groove closest to the engine. This will help some with your hose clearance problem. Groove closest to the engine remains empty which leads to a lifetime of comments from those who think they know better. Also be aware it is possible to over-push the hose onto the water pump a bit further than it needs to be which will also position the bend closer to the belt. If your alternator does not line up I would suspect the alternator pulley is wrong. The back flange of the correct pulley is significantly thicker than the front flange. Should look like there is almost enough room to machine a second groove.

Chris, I understand your reply and it's sure seems to match what my car looks like. It just seems to be contrary to other members and what o have observed. You are likely correct about putting the lower radiator hose too far onto the water pump flange. I know my pulley on my alternator is not correct, but just a parts store replacement. Currently using to rear pulley grovrst my alternator is too far forward, but using the front groves, my alternator seems about 3/16ths rearward. Likely the alternator pulley. I really appreciate your reply.

I wonder of having P/S has any effect on which groves were used. This option was not originally on my car.

Well, some of the other replies referred to AC cars or higher horse engines which used different pulleys and different arrangements. For 63, PS has no impact on where the alternator belt was installed. It simply used the add-on pulley on the crank.
