Any of you So Cal guys headed out to Pomona tomorrow? And for those who have been before -- what's been your experience buying parts from the vendors? Trustworthy overall? See you there.

Re: So Cal: Pomona Tomorrow
Matt,
Wish I were in town for that, I live in Palm Springs. Went one time and found that it was impossible to see it all. Also bring a wagon or cart and comfy shoes, water and 2 aspirins.

Matt,
Another helpfull thing is the chevy parts ID book so you can look up #s and see what the parts were off off.

Re: So Cal: Pomona Tomorrow
In my opinion, Pomona isn't worth the effort anymore. It's too expensive to get in and most of the vendors sell arts and crafts junk. Most of the really good parts are long gone and the guys that used to have them, now sell on ebay. Face it, it's a lot easier to sell on ebay than it is to lug that stuff around from swap meet to swap meet. The last time I was there (about 2 years ago), the pickin's were REALLY slim. I have a friend that goes every few months and he said it's gotten even worse.

Re: So Cal: Pomona Tomorrow
Ed,
Not my post but THANKS for saving me a trip from Palm springs someday, as what I remember is probably gone. Also, I hate to get up that early and fight the line getting in. Your right, E- bay and sell to the World. last time I was there I had a tablet, 2 pages, as to what was for sale in what space.
Matt,
If you go, how about your view on what you saw.

Will do, Dom. What Edward said sounds logical to me, but I'm going to check it out anyway. I like chatting up other owners and picking up a tip here and there. And who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky and stumble across something great. I'll let you know what I think.- Top

Re: So Cal: Pomona Tomorrow
I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from going, especially if they've never been before. It's still an "experience" that everyone should check out at least once in their lifetime. And you never know, there may be something there that makes it worthwhile for you. Pomona still draws a fairly large crowd so there ARE parts to be found, but it seems that the really good stuff (and rare), is hard to come by. But yes, by all means let us know what your thoughts are.

Re: Pomona Swap Meet
Matt,
Thanks for the report, It would be nice to have the corvette only venders close by, but that's why I had a pad with me writing down who had what in what space. Problem was some venders had mixed parts they collected. Such as a ford tri carb manifold with a chevy 409 manifold and mixed carbs & parts for other brands. Did see some just chevy stuff but it was all mixed with truck, pass, and maybe some vette.
I remember looking at a munci trans that was with shop equipment, I bought a valve grinder. The munci belonged to his neighbor. I think some of the problem is mixed parts, some GM and some ford,Plymouth and so on.

Re: Pomona Swap Meet
Matt -- sounds like your recent Pomona experience was much better than mine; I went to the March 2nd event. We Canadians like to take a break from the hash winter. Pomona swap meet weather was good that day (not too sunny) but attendance was sparse. I had no wait at the gate (maybe one car ahead of me) at 9 am. . I walked the 15 miles they advertise. Problem is that not too many vendors arrive early, so you're left with maybe 50% of the swap spaces empty. Then, more arrive, but others leave about noon, so there's no way you can be assured of having seen them all. By 4pm the site was virtually empty.
I saw ONE C2 Corvette part that day; a ratty lower rear valence.
There were maybe 4 or 5 C2's in the show/sale area.
Decades ago, I remember when we'd arrive at 4 am and go looking for deals with flashlights in hand. Lesson: you can never go back. The pic below was my highlight of this event.
BTW, you'd better polish up your Spanish.Attached Files- Top
