    Trim Tag opinions needed

    Gents,
firstly, I own this car. 1965 vin 196xx. I have never considered there to be a potential issue with the validity of this tag. Anyone care to comment?

Brought to my attention that the production date and body tag date are out of sequence, but it all looks to be within reason to me. It is a red red tag, and rivets nor tag look tinkered with to me. I just don't see any faults. Am I missing something?

Per the Corvette Birthday Book, a VIN of 19,6XX was built around June 9-10, 1965.

For 1965, the J21 body build date is May 21. Same for AOS and St Louis for the 1965 model year.

Assuming it takes 7-14 days (typically) for an AOS body to be transported to St Louis and to be on the assembly line, says that this car would typically have been built around May 28 to June 4. Given the assumptions, and a birthday book that can be off a few days, it would seem that the Trim Tag and the VIN are in reasonable agreement.

If you are still concerned, buy the TRIM TAG Authentication Book from NCRS, and examine the Trim Tag for factory markings.

        Larry

Greetings Anthony, admittedly an expert I am not, just a passionate enthusiast.

Firstly, my attention was drawn to the lower left leg of the "M" in TRIM. The lower inside portion for the left leg angles up towards the middle leg whereby the inner portion of the right leg does not appear to angle up, at least at the same angle.

Secondly, the "N" in PAINT, the center cross bar appears to start about 1/4 the way down from the left bar, whereby on my 1966 the center bars starts on the top of the left bar. The bottom of the cross bar where it meets the right bar looks the same.

The NCRS NCRS Authentication 1963-67 Corvette Trim Tags publication serves as an excellent source to research the specific characteristics of letters and surfaces on the trim tag. Under magnification, the book points specific characteristics, such as a small tooth-like pertrusion that extends off the top right of the "C" in CHEVROLET on the bottom tag.

A good iPhone picture zoomed in will produce good visual results to compare. Hope this helps.
