1971 Rivet configuration for J hook under the top shroud drain gutter rail

The 71 is finally getting painted.
This car has been hit here and there and a new GM top shroud was put on. So missing some key original stuff.

Painter needs to know if there is 1 or 2 of the J hooks riveted to the underside shroud drain gutter rail, This part is about 3 or 4 inches from the back edge of the top surround.

The car is a 1971 with no A/C

I have seen J hooks that hold the hose and or water pump hose assembly some with one J hook on the passenger side and some other 71's with J hooks on both sides.

This J hook basically has a hole drilled in the metal tab and bent, The bottom portion of the J hook is rubberized.

The other question is what kind of rivet is used.

    1. Flat head similar to the V bracket on the tire carrier but the top edge is doomed shape 002.jpg001.jpg
    2. A larger rivet and with a hole in the middle

Not to get off the year but I know the 68's used a dome round rivet

    I appreciate the 70 or 71 guru's

    Grant,

See the photos in my link below of my 72. The rivets and clips are the same as your 71.

      Hi Patrick

I looked at your pictures of you beautiful car and narrowed it to 2 pictures

      3 questions.

It seems there is a rivet on both sides of the channel and it is riveted on the side rather than the flat bottom of the channel?

Now my J hook is different from the ones on your car. Yours seems to have a hook and a clip. Does both of your sides have a hook and clip application. ( I will have to dig up my J hooks and send a picture)

Or it seems the side on the expansion tank has the J hook and clip.
I cannot see what kind of clip that is on the power brake booster side.

One other last question. The windshield washer neck bracket. It seems to be installed on the body and painted. Correct? Also what kind of rivet is holding that bracket. Flat rivet? with smooth round edges. I would assume my 71 B/B would use that same water neck bracket

      I really appreciate your help

Yes, rivets are on the sides, not the bottom.
There is a clip on each side of the car for the hoses. They are the same locking clip. The driver's side has 3 total locking clips. For some reason I can't login right now to link to the photo that shows this.
The washer bottle clip on the passenger's side rivets with a large flat rivet on the bottom of the channel.

All brackets were installed prior to body paint.

          Hi Grant, Patrick,
On my 71 (6589) the clip for the washer bottle neck was riveted to the bottom of the surround's gutter. It's quite an intricate bracket also.
Although the car was painted, this bracket and rivet stayed in place. It has a large flat head.
          Hope these pictures help.
Added, Sorry I can't load them in the order I would like. So the second picture shows the rivet for the hose clip in the side of the gutter, and the last picture shows rivet for the bracket, in the bottom of the gutter. Yes that's the original rivet for the hose clip.
          Regards,
          Alan

            Grant,

On my two '71's, both big blocks, and Mar & Apr build dates. The rivets are as Alan shows, however on the driver's side there is a hole in the gutter trough in the same location as the passenger side which has the flat rivet for holding the washer bottle bracket.

                Alan,

That's it. My holes on both cars actually touch the outer edge of that dimple.

                  Hi Warren,
Any sign of a dimple in the fiberglass in that vicinity on either car?
                  Regards,

                    Alan,

Yes, I have that same dimple you show in your picture, only the outer edge of my holes are just touching the edge of that dimple.
