1967 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide--(My Compliments)

I just received the 5th Edition of the 1967 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, and was extremely impressed/thrilled with the manual! The wealth of information; the clarity of descriptions; and the excellent supporting photographs, makes this an invaluable resource for not only restoration activities, but general knowledge of one's car(s). My only regret is that I did not purchase one of these outstanding manuals for all of the "other" (applicable) Corvettes that I have owned. Rather than belabor this issue, I just wanted to pass on "a very sincere well done" to the team members that compiled this most recent version of the manual; and to encourage any member who has not reviewed and/or purchased one of these manuals for their car(s) to do so, whether they intend to have the vehicle(s) judged or not. Thanks for the great product!

    Sincerely,
    Rob Vanderhoeven

Re: 1967 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide--(My Compliments)

I got one to help with my 67 hunt, and it paid off tremendously! I was intending to run my car through the judging program anyway; having the book ahead of time helped verify what was correct and what needed to be addressed. That was very useful at purchase time. I do wish that there was a description of the 427's hood stripe widths, though. Yes, the AIM has that, but are we using the AIM during a meet?

I also enjoyed meeting Chris Enstrom at the national convention in VA last year, and learning his red car is one of the pair on the cover!

Brian, it was a pleasure to have met you as well! And yes, I'm thrilled that my car was chosen to be on the cover. I hope to see you again at a future event!

Chris, I'll be in CO from June 4-9 for the meet, and visiting friends in the area. I'll keep an eye out for you if you're going.

Sorry, can't make that one. Not enough vacation time.

I second Rob's comments. This newest 67 manual is far and away the best yet. The addition of all the photos are well "worth a thousand words". Great job everyone who had a hand in assembling a great resource that we all can benefit from.

I also would congratulate the people that made this happen, with one quibble. The glovebox owner packet section was not corrected when an update to the rule came out many months before it was published, thus " Owner Protection Plan Warranty Booklet including Protect-O-Plate with correct VIN matching the car", is not in effect now.

All, as a team member who worked on this project for approx 2 years, I can tell you it was an adurous task and all on the team went thru a lot of time to try and get this version as accurate as possible based off of our knowledge. Many iterations and versions were scrubbed numerous times and reviewed by some of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby. I for one, am very proud of the product we put out and while there might be some things we wished we clarified more, it is a fine example of dedicated volunteers working together to help the hobby as best we can.

Thanks for the kudos, it means a lot to us!

What are the last 4 words on the bottom of page 31 of your copy of the 5th edition 1967 CTIM&JG?

(Do not judge POP) But, it is not clear to me if that means ignore all of the metal plate stampings (as in Protect-O-Plate in its' entireity), or ignore anything in the Owner Protection Plan Warranty Booklet that would match the VIN of the car, or just don't judge the metal plate but does that mean it doesn't have to have one?

And why wasn't the entire sentence removed rather than making people guess what you mean in that parenthetical expression? Very awkward IMO, but I am not chief judge so what do I know?

Mike, I believe the POP is not judged anymore on any year that has one. But the rest of the packet is judged.

Thanks Ed, I think you are correct, but I am still not sure if for '67, you need an authentic Corvette Owners Protection Plan Warranty Booklet that has a POP, but it is not judged, or if it doesn't need a POP (since it is not judged), or if any GM/Chevrolet Owners Protection Plan Warranty Book is OK even if it came from an Impala and has that POP in it, or not. The new '67 TIM&JG would have been the perfect place to put such information for owners heading to judging.

Simply put, Do not judge POP means just what it says.

As A Technical Information Guide, the revision team felt since the warranty book was included with every 1967 delivered to the original owner, it would be listed in a glove box contents description.

Perhaps for purposes of clarification you could review the Roy Sinor Judging Chairman's message detailing how this item is scored. See if this helps:

“NCRS as a practice will no longer judge or assign points to the dealership issued GM document known in the hobby as the Protect-O-Plate. All of our manuals will continue to describe and reference it in our Technical Information Manual & Judging Guides, It will not be required in the packet, it will not be judged, no points will be assigned to it.”

Thanks Nick, yes, I saw Roy's words in the Restorer in Feb. 2013. That wording would have been far superior to the seemingly contradictory (IMO) 4 word parenthetical expression tacked onto the sentence before it in the new '67 TIM&JG. I am just asking why that wording, clear as a bell as Roy usually is, was not put into the '67 TIM&JG which was sent out 8 months later, that's all. That was my quibble about this otherwise outstanding manual. I may be the only one in NCRS that feels "(Do not judge POP)" is not as clear as what Roy said (especially the part about "it will not be required in the packet"), if so, I am sorry to have even brought it up and wasted anyone's time, I apologize for not understanding it all as well as others do.

Sounds to me like the POP is a non-starter. If the vin matching one is there...no additional points. If no POP is there...no loss of points. If a POP is there from a different Chevrolet...no additional point & no loss of points. Is that about it??
