Adhesive for driver door weatherstrip ?

Hi; My driver door weatherstripping on the vertical jamb has detached (about 8 inches). What would be the best adhesive to use. I am tempted to use black silicone....... Thanks in advance.

3M super weatherstrip in tube. NAPA usually has it. Just clean the surfaces good; it sticks just about anything.

Thanks Ken; I bought the 3M adhesive today, however, the instructions warn that this product can cause a reaction & cause the paint to cone off. My car was restored 5 years ago with a base coat and clear coat. Any worries for a reaction wirh the paint ?

I've used it on 6 month old urethane BC/CC with no problems.

We used DAP contact adhesive applying it with a 3/4" paint brush. Mimics factory installation, color is off yellow like the original

There is a growing body of evidence that the original weather strip adhesive was clear and yellows with age. If that can ever be proven true I expect a lot of people will be asking how to remove that "yellow snot."

'Something to be said for yellowing over time. The 49++ years I have had my '57 the original glue has darkened and become "more yellow." It is no longer Mellow Yellow. Steve

I use Weldwood DAP Contact Cement - judges so far have loved it
The original glue was darker yellow - the original weatherstrip I have pulled off on the underside not exposed to the elements is a brown yellow type....

The contact cement may be good for color to match the old original look but I imagine the paint comes with it if you ever need to remove the rubber, that stuff is really something.

Just use 3M Adhesive Remover. Actually the rubber comes apart not pulling paint off.

I am sure it would ruin the rubber and the prob the paint

3M yellow is a contact cement also, uses about the same solvents.

Terry, I agree with that 100% on new car weatherstrip glue being clear and invisible ........ age made it darker.
I'm posting a pic that Michael Hanson sent me that shows an almost new 63 being tested by Road & Track magazine.
I don't see any exposed glue on the the white paint. Bob J

I am with you Bob. I expect we will see factory photos that will show the lack of yellowing of the weatherstrip adheasive. It is just a matter of time.
