According to Mecum's web site the auction is cancelled. Its a shame and I think this a blow to B/G. What's your thoughts.

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
I'm on the Mecum e-mail list and in contrast to his other auctions, I cannot recall receiving even one "Consign to Bloomington Now" message. Think about last year's Bloomington auction results and the end of his contract to have an auction at BG this year - maybe Mecum was looking for a reason to walk away.- Top

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
Well John I missed the first Bloomington and I will miss this one. My Vietnam days and agent orange are coming back to haunt me. I will be in the hospital doing my bone marrow transplant for multiple myeloma but all things are good and we are going to get this thing under control. To all those who are going I hope they have a GREAT weekend and have drink for me. We are hoping to be well enough Carlisle.Bill Lacy

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
Bill, best to you in your treatments. As far as Mecum, the trend was obvious for the past 5 years. Each year his other auctions grew, most consignors chose to place their cars where the audience and the money went and it was not BG. If you saw his last two auctions KC and Indy, the plethora of high end cars including Corvettes is overwhelming. I believe other auction houses may pick up the slack and try a all Corvette auction at BG. Time will tell.- Top

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
I would love to see an all Corvette auction at Bloomington but if there are no cars to bring the buyers in then it becomes a moot point. That and the fact that Champaign is not exactly easy to fly into does not bode well for a future all Corvette auction at BG.- Top

I agree - could be devastating for Bloomington Gold. Doesn't Dana have a ownership role in BG?Dan Young

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
Bloomington was conceived as a Swap Meet and proved to be the most successful swap meet in history. Thats what it should have been and would have grown to by now. But that's history! In my opinion auctions pull customers from the swap meet and generally don't do well when combined with a swap. Examples would be Bloomington, Knoxville and to some extent the NCRS meet in Florida each January.
Just and opinion and you know about opinions!
JR
PS. People with money at the auctions want to be seen on TV and usually don't need parts! They buy complete cars that some other person has sweated over!!!!!!- Top

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
Not really Hugh Ray. First class auction and swap meet should go hand in hand. Do well together. For example. Corvettes at Carlisle
The Knoxville auction was the greatest except I used to die from the BB exhaust fumes. Every car that went thru the auction had to drive by my trailer. That was the good old days until u know what. JD- Top

Re: Mecum BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
John,
Who goes to Corvettes at Carlisle for the auction? Not many! Most people don't even know that there is an auction at Corvettes at Carlisle! You have made my point!
JR
PS. John, why don't you start attending the great swap meet at the Barrett-Jackson auction! Duh!- Top
