Actually, it's the 1966+ configuration. Note the "hump" adjacent to the unused "flat" on the air cleaner base. This feature was added in 1966. It was not present for the 1965-only air cleaner base. However, as I mentioned above, this "hump" must have been added as a revision to the specs for the base because the 6422188 is the only base ever used for 1965+. If there ever was a predecessor part number, which I HIGHLY doubt, it was never a SERVICE available part. But, if a 6422188 base had been purchased prior to about mid-1965, I expect it would not have had the "hump".
I expect the "hump" was added for some 1966+ non-Corvette application of this base since I cannot see why it would have been needed for any 1966-72 Corvette application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1965 /66 BB air cleaner base
Joe, thanks for clarifying the hump or humps. I had been looking at the flat (approximately 5" from the 1" tube) and the very slight circular depression on that flat, which is about the size of a quarter. I was thinking that this was what was being referred to as the hump. It seems that others may have also made the same assumption. Thus when it was stated that a hammer and dolly could fix this for judging, I could see where this would be possible. Clearly the large hump added after 1965 could not have been easily added or removed with a hammer and dolly, IMHO. I had totally ignored the lack of any hump on the picture shown in Jody Balch post, and was concentrating on the quarter size circular small hump. So now I know the difference between the 65 & 66 A C bases, but not sure about the differences between the 66 & 67, if any? Joe, By 66+ I assume you mean 66, and 67, and later?? With no consideration for the small circular impression on the flat?? Bill the original poster was asking about the differences between 65 & 66 so that question has been answered. What about the rest?- Top

I don't think there is any difference between 1966 and 1967-72.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1965 /66 BB air cleaner base
Joe. Wrong info misleading regarding 1966
the base for sb and bb did not have the added bump at the 5 o'clock position until September 1966 and in other threads it is documented that early 67 sb do not have the bump- Top
