1963/64 Spare Tire Tub Date Stamping???

In the exterior section of the current 1963-1964 TIMJG on page 68 under SPARE TIRE HOUSING it states that;

"In mid 1964 the practice of stamping of production dates in white ink, began."

Is this correct or is this an error in the TIMJG? I've searched the archives and have found threads stating that date stamping did not begin until 1967 and at that time the tub "may" have a date stamp.

What is correct for 63/64 judging? I'm trying to earn every point I can get.

James, I would visit with Scott Sinclair about that, but it's my understanding that the white ink stamping didn't begin until 1967.

The original tire tub on my July build date '66 has the ink stamp. So it started prior to the '67 model year.

Thanks Gary. With all of the '65's that I've restored and judged, I've never seen an original '65 tub that had the white ink stamping in the upper tub. Good to know about your late '66 car.

My car is a mid-April build date and the tub is stamped "MAR 1966".

My April 15th '66 does not have the date stamp, but my September 3, 1966 built '67 is date stamped. Must have started between April and July!

Gentlemen, After looking at about 200 Tire Tubs. It is my conclusion that the White ink stamp started around mid to late production units for 1966. I have seen original owner tubs in 1967 with and Without date stamps. The wording of "may contain a date stamp", I believe is a correct description.

Gentlemen, After looking at about 200 Tire Tubs. It is my conclusion that the White ink stamp started around mid to late production units for 1966. I have seen original owner tubs in 1967 with and Without date stamps. The wording of "may contain a date stamp", I believe is a correct description.

Good work, guys. Now, can you remind me where this embossing is located ? Can't recall whether it was lid or tub, early '65 or late '65.

What "embossing"? The thread focuses on the ink stamp. On my late '66 the stamp is in the tub, not the lid.

Based on Scott's evidence, that would be my conclusion. But I'm no expert of '63-'64 But surely there should be some '63-'64 experts who have looked into this question before now.
