    Tumbler - work

Any advice on how or who to send tumblers to for work? My glove box door lock will not pass a PV, if the key is turned 45 degrees it still pulls out of the lock. Also my spare tire lock I am told is a universal set, and will accept my ignition key. Botha re PV failures. I have not picked locks since HS and don't have the first idea how to repair either of these.

that's an easy one, Pete Lindahl, NM chapter, master locksmith, has you covered in every respect. You can find him in the members list under the Community tab in tool bar above, or he will see this thread and write to you.

I need some Briggs & Stratton keys made for my '64 before the national convention. Do you have his contact information? I need to get them sent to him.

            Ronald,

If you have a '65 spare tire lock, then it's correct that the ignition key should insert into it. It just shouldn't open it. Universal keyway spare tire locks were non-production replacements for '67 thru '79 spare tire locks. For '65 and '66 both the primary and secondary keys used the same, groove 15 keyway, so any '65 or '66 key will insert into any '65 or '66 lock, spare tire or otherwise.

so if I understand correctly on a correct sparer tire lock for 65; the ignition key will fit into it but not turn it? will it fit all the way in or part way in?

                  Ronald,

A proper '65 ignition key will fit all the way into a proper '65 spare tire lock.

Now maybe your ignition lock (and key) has been replaced with a later unit that takes a '67 or newer "letter" key, which has a different keyway. In that case, you have a bigger problem in order to get back to original.

                    Ronald,

By any chance does the ignition key that you're trying to insert into the spare tire lock have a letter stamped into the upper end of the blade? Like an A, C, E or J?

Send your locks to Pete. I saw him briefly at the North Central Regional. He did the locks on my car, and I passed PV in 2011. Great guy. Good luck on your PV!
