Preparing for a PV and need clarification on the air flow off heated air as it relates to the position of heater/defrost knob position. Would you expect air flow to the floor and through the radio side panels with the knob pushed all the way in and then the amount of air will very as the knob is pulled out with it being split between the defrost duct and floor until the knob is pulled to the full pulled out position when all the air flow goes to the defrost duct? If this is not correct, could someone explain the air flow relative to the position of the heater/defrost knob position and how the heater box ducts would be positioned? Thanks for the help!

Bob, You should have 0 air flow at the lower vents and radio panels with the knob pushed all the way in. As you pull the knob out to the first detent you will get air to the lower vents. After the first detent you will get a mix between lower vents and defrost until you get the know all the way out (full defrost). I hope this helps! You will fail the PV if you have air leaking out with the knob all the way in. Joe -

Thanks for your help Joe! A couple additional questions. With the knob pulled out to the first detent position, does the air travel out through the radio panels and the vents that are behind them that direct air to the foot well? If the air is directed through the radio panels, how is that achieved? My floor vents I believe go through an opening in the back of the radio panel on the passenger side and on the driver side the floor vent is positioned behind the radio panel. Is there something that should be added to divert the air through these radio panels? Also, is the first detent position a result of a notch in the cam on the heater distribution box or is it a dent in the cable? I don't seem to have a detent at all.Bob Puls, 30633Comment

Bob, the detent is in the heater box mechanism.
Behind the radio side panels there is a y duct screwed to the bottom of the heater box. On the y duct there are 2 outlets on each side. 1 outlet feeds the footwell area and the other outlet feeds the radio panels. Good luck, JoeComment
