Jerry, Do you have the part #'s handy? I have a '29 to '59 P&A Catalog I could check in until Joe sees this.

Re: E57 Hood Hinge Mounting bolts
If you're referring to Bolt 122007, the bolt chart in the Judging Guide shows it as a 5/16 (-18 X 3/4", my research) hex head, WB1C or TR head mark. Finish isn't given but I'd assume zinc with clear chromate. Washers are 120214 & 446548 which I assume are flat and lock. Maybe Rich can confirm.- Top

Re: E57 Hood Hinge Mounting bolts
Okay.......Got it.
Found the numbers and descriptions in the 1929-1959 P&A Catalog, and some research in my other 'virtual' books.
Grp 8.931
120214 5/16" Medium Thickness Lock Washer Cadmium Plated

446548 does not exist in the 1929-1959 P&A Catalog, so I did some checking in the gmpartswiki.com site.
Because factory usage of parts does not necessarily equate to over-the-counter replacement parts, this is not exactly what was used in production, but at least tells us that this part is a "Plain" (flat) Washer.
According to Part Number Replacements and Supersessions 80TS-RP
446548 was Superceded to 120394
I think it's a 1979 RP guide. Interesting, but the replacement part 120394 shows up in the 1929-1959 P&A Catalog, so it was used back then too. Notice it's a 3/8" ID part, not 5/16" ID like the LW. What ID size was 446548? I don't have a clue. I suppose once installed, no one will ever know it's not a 5/16". But then again, maybe 446548 was a 3/8" ID part.
Grp 8.929
120394 3/8" Small Plain Washer Cadmium Plated

BTW, they probably bought and used Billions of these 2 parts throughout GM, and likely used by other manufacturers of the era. The prices in '59 for the 120394 FW was $5.22 for a box of 500. The 120214 LW cost a staggering $0.44 for a box of 50. Both about a penny each.
Yesterday I went to my favorite ACE to buy boxes of SAE Cad Plated Grade 5 Plain Washers for my projects, 1/4", 5/16", 3/8". They had to order them. They guy tells me he has some in the Dorman box display drawers. 5/16" PW were 20 cents EACH !!! I'm getting box price quotes later today.

p.s. It's amazing how much time it takes to research this stuff. I've been at this almost an hour, with 2 coffees and 2 pee breaks already.- Top

Re: E57 Hood Hinge Mounting bolts
Jerry,
Check the bolt chart in the back of the 56-7 Judging Manual.
