    1958 vin j58s100010

My Vin Number is the 10th Car produced in I think Oct 1957. Is it possible that some of those very early 58's didn't have trunk strips on hood louvers?

    Thanks,
    Hugh Smith

It wouldn't seem likely since 1958 was a completely new body style vs. 1957. Congratulations on being member #60000.

Hugh, all 58s had the hood and deck trim. Worked on SN 003, talked to owner of 002, think 001 was a rolling mock up.

Perhaps Dan can confirm/deny, but I remember two items about 003 - that it did not have the rear fender reflectors and that the original motor was a '57 548 casting.

I have seen some late 548 blocks with X58 cast on the side and some 539 heads with the X58 cast also. I always suspected some very early 58's may have used the 57 castings.

Mel and Arlene Sisson of Louisville Colorado owned either 006 or 008 I forget exactly which one. It had louvers and trunk strips. This was back in the early to mid-80s. I don't see their names in the member list so I'm guessing they have probably sold their cars and moved on to other things.

Being new to the club and to this Forum, It really gerat to see the support I have received on my "little" question regarding my early 1958 Corvette. Great club! Thanks to all!

If my feeble memory serves me, the 003 engine as well as the frame were 57 items. Rear reflectors, don't recall. It had lots of sand cast parts on it: the chrome door armrests, grill teeth, the FI unit was SN 002, a 250 HP type. The trunk cover plates were held by clutch head bolts and nuts, not the usual screws. The frame still had a 57 part number on it, June date I think. I have a bunch of pictures some where, gave most to Mal Winer, the owner. He could answer questions in much more detail now than I.

                        Hi Dan,

Thanks!! I may have a 57 Frame? what does a 57 frame look like compared to a 58 Frame? Should it have a 57 #Part number stamped on it and where might it be located on the car?

                        Thank You!
