56 Parking Brake Flasher

The unit that champs on the 56 parking brake arm appears the same as the one on my 54. Is the flashing unit interchangeable? 12v vs 6v.

You are correct that they are different, 12v vs. 6 v. They also have different numbers (the last 3 digits of the part number) stamped in white ink on the black housing.

Cathy,

Emergency brake flasher part numbers:
- 53-55 6V #632
- 56-75 12V #650, GM 3711289
- 58-60 12V #642, GM 3737979

Have not been able to find information on the electrical differences between flasher #642 and #650.

#650 flashers are not easy to find. #650 flasher will work for 56-57, but don't know if the flashing rates are different or not.
