.......sorry, flashback to Jr. High there......

Would someone please tell me what this capacitor type thingy is that I just noticed?

Could it be related to a shop putting in a new headlight switch last month?

Where should it be plugged into?

Part of the U-69 radio Page A5 at least for '65 package, fits over the terminal on the ammeter before attaching the wiring connector.

Since I have my radio disconnected, I image I could remove it entirely, eh?...ie, is it a necessary part of some other function?

You might want to keep it with the radio so it doesn't get lost or damaged....
