star / bowtie paint care questions and insights

Members: on original cars, does anyone have any good advice &/or experience in preserving the paint on original cars, even to the point of being able
to reverse the paint shrinking problem and improving on the cosmetics (e.g., like a fix to the spider webbing), without crossing the line into restoration? Preservation of the originality is the primary goal here. Thanks for your insights... Tony

Once the spider webbing starts there is no "repair." Either live with it or repaint.

Original paint: Keep it out of the sun and in climate controlled conditions, if you can afford it. Be careful what you use to polish it. Polish it too much with a "cleaner/polish" and you will see the primer. I would recommend a polish, but all the good ones are no longer made, and we would start a "my polish is better than your polish" debate. There is no sense to doing that as it will get us nowhere.

Adams Brilliant Glaze. Not a cleaner or polish but just a glaze. Does not last very long but definitely helps the look of aged paint. http://www.adamspolishes.com/default.aspx

It has been awhile since I have purchased Meguires #7, I liked using it.

Don't believe they make that anymore. Also I think it had a light polish in it.
