I have just pulled the trans out of my recently acquired 67 big block roadster, to replace the clutch, and now I am thinking while I have it out maybe I should throw in a 5 speed like I had in my 66, ( Richmond) I remember it being a bit of a bitch to get in there but it sure did work great, also had to change the diff to 308's , what about these tremec TkO's they have an overdriven 5th, do they bolt right in? how would it perform with my stock 411 rear end? ( my original M-21 is long gone by the way)

Re: Possible trans swap
Your probably on the wrong forum for this conversion, but here are my thoughts. I put a Tremec 5 speed and 383 stroker in a 62 a few years back. I went from driving it about 2500 miles a year to 7500. I got mine from Hurst Driveline in California. There helpfulness before and after the purchase was far superior than the unnamed outfit in Pa. I run 3.70 gears and at 70 mph, tach 1900 rpm. Can't say whether it is a direct bolt in for a 67, but that is what they claim. Call them and I'm sure they can answer your questions.- Top

Re: Possible trans swap
Thanks Terry, I am new to the NCRS, I have looked at all the options on the home page and as far as I can see this is the only forum there is. There is no general discussion or something similar, or do you mean the question is just not technical enough for this website?- Top

Re: Possible trans swap
And, here it seems like if it IS modified then it's not accepted. Certainly not a bad thing...just sayin'. Both forums are a veritable wealth of information and insight. IMHO they both come in very handy. I love NCRS for it's devotion to originality and keeping our cars as close to original as possible, my personal leaning. The other guys allow a little (lot) of latitude...so long as you drive 'em and enjoy 'em.Leif

Re: Possible trans swap
Ok , I get it now, I am a member of the corvette forum as well, I didn't realize that this one was so strict, but hey it's not called the National Corvette Restorers Sosiety for nothing, and a full blown NCRS restoration is what is going to happen to this car in the next year or so, but for now I am going to drive and enjoy it for a bit.- Top

Re: Possible trans swap
Dave, if you look at some previous posts you will find that many of us have modified Corvettes (I do) and there are older posts from members who have installed 5 speeds in earlier Corvettes. A number of us are also on the CF. I interpreted the message as there are just more folks on CF who probably encountered the install than here. Also, maybe the manufacturer may know as I am certain they have had calls from other '63-'67 owners. Welcome to NCRS! Let us know how your car comes out! Steve

Re: Possible trans swap
Thanks Steve , I am all about originality when it comes to these cars, and I am looking forward to the challenge of a frame off restoration on this 67, just looking forward to a summer of driving it the way it is , until I can collect all the parts I need to get going, I will direct my questions accordingly from now on.- Top
