I'm very familiar with RBW bolts. However, on a 62, I found several of these RSW bolts. Has anyone ever seen that head on a 53-62? In what application/location? P5070148.jpg

Re: RSW bolts?
Bill,
I was waiting to mention that until I determined whether or not anyone has seen them. They would have been placed on an assembly by a supplier, not on the assembly line at either at the Flint engine plant or St. Louis.- Top

Re: RSW bolts?
Mike,
RSW is not listed in the '63 Fastener Institute as a register bolt head logo. Nor is RBW. Believe RBW was or became Rockford, but don't know for sure.

Re: RSW bolts?
What's the significance of it being listed by the Fastener Inst or not? RBW is a commonly found head mark, on C2s at least, so it's clearly legit. Can't say I've ever seen an RSW before.

Re: RSW bolts?
As I understand it the IFI was formed to publish the head markings among other things. Is it a complete listing of all the companies producing fasteners in 1963, probably not.
This spring 1964 publication I have is GM, SAE and manufacturer markings. This publication is the most comprehensive list of period head markings I've found other than the GM Fastener 3 book set (1200 plus pages) of which I've never been able to acquire a copy of.

Re: RSW bolts?
RBW was the head marking for "Russel Birdsall and Ward", a fastener manufacturing firm.Mike

Re: RSW bolts?
I have the same document as Gary has. It lists "The Reliable Spring and Wire Forms Company", which certainly could translate to RSW. A Google search lists them in Elyria, Ohio. However, the document shows their code as RS. I do not have a Ring Screw Works listing in that document. The RSW bolt I pictured is used as a fastener in a low-production 1962 option. I've never seen that headmarking on a 57-62 before. Has anyone else seen it anywhere?- Top

Re: RSW bolts?
Ring Screw Works was an independent fastener manufacturer who supplied many fasteners to GM. They are now part of another company. I have never seen them use RSW, they normally use a circle (ie: "Ring") as a mark.Mike

Ring Screw Works is at the bottom of page 37 in the 1964 IFI fastener head bolt marks
