I am fast approaching the time to mount my new radiator and fan shroud in my 65'. I read the JG,but want to make sure of the bolt finish on both parts. What is the correct finish on the top stamped steel bracket and the six bolts on the shroud? Thanks

Re: Radiator and fan shroud bolts
I believe they are all cad plated and mine are all stamped WB. The 6 bolts that hold the shroud in place have a large diameter flat washer and a lock washer. The 3 that hold the top bracket in place also have a large washer and a lock washer. This is on my 63 but I think they are the same.- Top

Doug, there is a similar thread below at bottom of page on the bolts and there plating. some mixed results though doe 65 on the bolt type. The steel bracket is painted semi gloss black.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Radiator and fan shroud bolts
Two different types of bolts documented with the fan shroud attachment bolts. Some pinchpoint (black phos), some flat (cad). The biggest problem I see when judging is that the typical repro bolts are way too long.Last edited by Tony S.; May 9, 2014, 06:39 AM.Region VII Director (serving members in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas).

Re: Radiator and fan shroud bolts
My '64 was judged in January. I have cad plated, WB headmark bolts from LIC for that application. I lost points because they are too long. I think the JG says something about how far they should protrude through on the engine side. With that measurement you can probably calculate the total length they should be. I would calculate this length and call the various vendors and ask if they have that finish and headmark in the length you calculate. If you buy what they say is for that location, at least if it is from LIC, you will get bolts that are too long. I'm guessing that they have bolts of the correct length but listed for some other application. I have one shorter bolt with the same finish and headmark, which is installed the attachment hole at the lower radiator hose. The longer bolt hit the hose. Be careful at that location.- Top

Re: Radiator and fan shroud bolts
I just had my original shroud bolts out of my 63 and they are WB1C head marks and are 3/4 in. thread lengths, Zinc plated. with black lock washers. I am sure that 65 were slightly different as Tony states. this is just for some of the guys that are searching this thread.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Radiator and fan shroud bolts
Here are a couple photos of the two types of '65 fan shroud bolts that we have documented on original cars. Hope this helps.
