    Hardtop Removal Tool

I had my 71 judged recently at the Houston Chapter Meet and plan to take the car to Colorado next month for regional judging. One item missing from my car was the "hardtop removal tool", which according to the JG 3rd Ed. is an open-end wrench that is located in the storage tray behind the passenger seat. Does anyone know any details about this wrench . . . brand, lettering, etc.?

Mike one wrench is called Vlchek. 7/16 one end 1/2 on the other. I have a picture here. Believe it I've seen them on Ebay for under $10.00.

      Here's a picture of Joe Lucia's 1969 wrench. A Challenger.

Yes, but note that the Vlchek wrench is 1/2" and 7/16". My wrench is 1/2" and 9/16". The 1/2" end on mine is used for the two stainless steel side screws (which thread into panel nuts on the "wings" of the deck lid). The 9/16" end is used for the nuts which retain the 3/8" studs which pass through the deck lid locks.

On the Vlchek wrench, I don't know what the 7/16" end would be used for as far as the hardtop goes.

Yup, Joe. I don't know why I took the 7/16 picture. I remember it was 9/16.

There is a description of the wrench and some of the manufacturers in the latest 1968-69 JG. Is it the same for 1970-72, Joe?

There's no description I can find of the wrench in the 70-72 JG.

I'll second that. I've been trying to source this wrench too. Thanks for sharing info on this...

I know there is no description in the 1970-72 JG. I meant to ask is the wrench from the same manufacturers and the same design in later years?

I cannot say with certainty. However, I would expect they were the same.
