What other vehicles were assembled in the St Louis plant in 1967

My 67 roadster has a transmission is out of a 67 Chevy II. All the castings are correct, but the Assembly date is later and of course the VIN is a sequence 7Wxxxxx. I found a maincase only with a good assembly date, correct casting. But the owner is saying the VIN is 7S21xxxx. What other vehicles were assembled in the St Louis plant that would have this VIN sequence?

probably not worth the trouble, but I may need to rebuild the transmission later and if I can find a better suited maincase for a reasonable price I would consider it. Yes, I know it will never be the correct/original transmission!!!

I think I answered my own question. Found a site that says passenger cars were assembled in St Louis also.

      Donald -

Also a major Truck Line that built everything from pickups to medium-duties and school bus chassis, and the Corvair-based forward-control Greenbrier, Corvan, Rampside, etc. were built up on the 4th floor of the main plant. In the 60's, St. Louis was the largest assembly plant in North America.

        Donald------

At the time, the St. Louis Assembly complex was the largest vehicle assembly operation in the whole of General Motors. The main plant assembled full size passenger cars, pick-up trucks, and certain Corvair models. The separate Corvette plant built only Corvettes. However, all vehicles built at St. Louis carried the "S" plant code.

Donald -- If the plant production lines were the same as 1965 MY, St. Louis produced passenger cars (198,700), trucks (129,200, Corvettes (23564), and Corvair 95's (1528 -- model phased out in Dec '64).

Chevy II's started at the Willow Run plant (W) Michigan in June of 1965 and only produced 957 to end of July (end of model year).

            Hi Don,

Here is a picture I have labelled as "St. Louis Chevrolet Plant 1961." I would bet that I got it here from one of the gents who worked there back in the day.

So this wasn't St Louis, only those trucks were done there?

Hmmm, too bad we weren't on the same scale today at GM.

Any of you guys recognize these gents?

Actually..I posted this picture some years ago. It came from a brochure of the St. Louis Plant given to me by a retired Plant worker. Chevrolets, Trucks and Corvettes were made in St.Louis as well as Amphibious Ducks for World War 2.

Joe has a awesome collection of parts. I wouldn't sell them either!

I started collecting parts, and quickly ran out of room.

Joe, My comments and the picture are in a kidding manner of course, and credit you for all of your knowledge about any GM part, in, or not in your collection. I have to rely on my few books and some online info. You have most in your head I'd bet.

I wish I had enough room to rack the parts the way the dealers did. If I did, I'd actually be able to find a part easily. As it is, with my "tote bin system", it can be a real pain to find a part.

I like the caption on the parts photo saying that dealers maintain a large stock of parts. That's how it USED to be. These days, dealer parts departments are often so thin that they might not even have the oil filter you need.

Surprisingly Joe, a few months ago I needed 4 sway bar end links for my '07 coupe, and a friend who runs the Part's Dept at the old Rothman's Chevrolet, now Rosner's, in Melbourne, FL had more than I needed on the shelves. Maybe because those only last about 40,000 miles before they start making the annoying "clicking" sound going over light bumps, they have a good supply on hand.

On a much smaller scale in comparison to your stuff, about 7 years ago I bought a locally owned '62 project, complete, but neglected and needed everything. I started buying all of the NOS parts I could find. I bought a pickup truck load of NOS from a Corvette acquaintance, and started my collection for the car. Then buying at swap meets, online auctions, etc. 2 years later I sold the car, but had bins of parts. I felt compelled to keep the parts. I love parts. When I was a young kid building model cars, I had a giant partner's desk for a work bench in the basement. Every drawer, about 16 of them, was full of plastic car parts. I guess the habit continued. Now the parts are just bigger, cost a whole lot more, and need much more room.

I finally started making room and separated myself from much of the C1 parts collection, mainly to make room, for you guessed it........other parts! Now I have a huge Used parts collection. I can't throw this stuff out. Against my nature.

I would have been in heaven if I witnessed all of the parts at the St Louis Plant. Car parts heaven.
