Upper and Lower Distributor Housing Bushings - Late 60's

In my P&A catalogues, I can't find GM numbers for the upper and lower distributor housing bushings that would have been used in my 1111156 (66 L79) and 1111293 (68 L36) distributors. I have been looking in Gr. 2.363.

Were these bushings not available in service through GM?

Surely, they would have had Delco-Remy part numbers. What might these be?

    Thank you.

The distributor bushing were not available as a service item from GM. The service item was a new distributor housing with bushings installed.

I always figured that the assumption was that most shops/owners could not install the bushings properly and have the necessary reamer to ream them to size after installation.

        Dick:

Judging by what I have read, I think you are right. Installing these bushings properly is not child's play.

I believe the bushing are available through aftermarket replacement part brands. Try BWD. After replacing the bushings they should be precision align honed to provide one to two thou shaft clearance.

That's why GM didn't service them. It was a lot easier to put all the old guts in a new housing rather than send the housing out to a machine shop to replace and align hone the bushings.

GM apparently did not consider the distributor housing with installed bushings to be field-serviceable. In general, when GM considered a component to be non-field-serviceable, it was with very good reason. In other words, they reckoned that field service of certain component assemblies would in most cases result in less-than-satisfactory results.

Of course, as time goes on and parts once available become no longer available, repair techniques for original parts must be developed. Fortunately, specialists develop to fill the need for this. While these bushings have been available in the aftermarket for years, I don't recommend that "amateurs" get involved with this sort of repair.

Thank you for the explanation, Joe.

This certainly is something that is best left to a skilled machinist who has the proper equipment and plenty of experience.
