    65 396 spider block

DSCN1597.jpgDSCN1598.jpgDSCN1614.jpgDSCN1615.jpgThis is a picture of a 65 396 engine #16120 removed at one year old and stored under a tree with a tarp and a piece of metal over it until I bought it in 1984 . I was told the car was Yellow with knock offs later painted brown . A friend bought the knockoffs a few years earlier for his 66 . I don't know what happened to the car I have not been able to find it . We called it the spider engine because of the very large spiders living in it .It was also used for acorn storage by the critters . The sheet metal parts did not hold up well .Everything else is usable . It was removed due to spun bearings . The owner also had two Kaiser Darrins and a few other cars parked in the field all not for sale .

    Hi Bill,

I can't hardly believe anyone would do that! I guess they were just cars back in the day. Did you look in the C2 registry?

Carl . Im going to use it to replace my missing original block .Its 16120 my car is 17346 . I will be close and I won't need to destroy the numbers on a orig. block . The engine was complete except the starter , flywheel .and the air cleaner . I also have block 16718 its closer to mine , it depends the amount of machine work it needs . It was a drag racing blower motor .

            Bill,

Will you do me a big favor and tell me if the engine fan has a "W" stamped on it? I was questioned yesterday at our chapter meet flight judging why my original fan on my 396 doesn't have a "W" stamped on it.

            Thanks,

            James West

James . I have two fans , the one removed from the 16120 engine is very rusty and pitted on the section that would have the "W" I glass beaded it to check , I did not find any sign of a W . It does have an "H" on the front side and has the small dome rivits . The fan removed from 17346 I think is the original its the same size and shape as the rusty one has a W on the back and a H on the front side , It also says front on the front side and has the large flatter round rivits I can post pictures tonight if you need them .

James Here are pictures . The rusty one is the orig. from 16120 the black one was removed from 17346 . I believe DSCN1632.jpgDSCN1633.jpgDSCN1635.jpgDSCN1634.jpg it to be the original note the big flat rivits and the word front . this blade was on the car in 1980 when I bought it .

James second set from 16120DSCN1637.jpgDSCN1638.jpgDSCN1639.jpgDSCN1631.jpg The rusty part is where the W is on the other blade . note the small round rivets. Could have been more than one supplier ?
