Sorry about that, I made an error in saying the '57 3 speed was fully synchro and fell on my sword. It wasn't the first and darn sure won't be the last.

The synchronizer unit for 2nd and 3rd gear as used for 1955 - 63 passenger cars and Corvette was # 3774720. Three speed transmissions for 1964 -65 vehicles required synchronizer # 3849090.

And since you mentioned that (and MANY people may not know this), the reason for the differend synchronizer is because the angle of ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL internal gears, tail shaft splines for the synchro drum, reverse idler gear, changed. For example, you CANNOT use the earlier gears, syncro drum, etc, from a 60 3sp tranny in a 65 3sp tranny. Now, with that said, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the internals of of an early tranny, or, a later tranny can be completely swaped into the case/tail housing of an early/late case and tail housing. So, If a person had a 57 tranny with junk gears, and a 64 tranny with EVERYTHING good inside, all the 64 internal parts could be swapped into the 57 case/tail housing.
