57 Corvette fan shroud.

I was recently questioned by a friend concerning the fan shroud for his 56 Corvette.
I checked out the ones on my early 57 and then my late 57 and they were distinctly different.
The early car had the narrow shroud that screws into the bottom shroud piece.
The late car had a wide one which attaches to the frame rail (rusty chrome one).
Is this correct and when and why was the change made ?Fan Shrouds 003.JPG

Hello Bruce, I have a early (Oct.56) 1957. It has the four piece setup that attaches to the frame. Hope that helps. Just checked the AMI and there was no info. on a midyear change.

Bruce, my Dec. 14 car has the wide one. I have a narrow one which I bought in '67 that came from a later C1 that superceeded the wide one. Steve

Bruce, I believe the long top shroud was used, with the 3 piece bottom shroud from 55 to 58 or 59. The short shroud was the a service replacement in the Parts Book for these years. But was origionally changed over for the longer "fan clutch" system. My 3 57's plus a 55 &56 all had the long top shroud with a direct mounted fan, while my 62 had the short top shroud with a clutch fan. Also with the short top shroud was a 2 piece bottom shroud.
