I am considering the TA for replacement tire on my 75. Many have used the 225/70 size. The 255/60 size has almost the same height (27.1 for the 255/60 and 27.4 for the 225/70). Revs per mile are 769 vs 758 so both would work. I am drawn to the 255 because it recommends a wheel width of 7-9 inches vs 6-7.5. Section width is 10.2 vs 9 so my question is, "Will the larger 255 rub at any of the four corners?" Anyone with direct experience? Because of the larger section width I expect the 255 would perform better as it has a higher load rating and more tread on the ground. Also may look more aggressive. I have looked in the archives and did not see any direct comparisons of these two sizes.

Re: BF Goodrich Radial TA for C3
Greg,
I believe for the 1978 model year when the P255/60R15 (QBS) tires were ordered the front of the fender wheel opening lip was removed or trimmed and the rear ledge of the wheel opening was mitered at an angle to accommodate the larger tire diameter. (I've always wondered if all 1978's had this treatment or just the ones with QBS.) My S/A with QSB that was stolen in 1980 did. Perhaps a late C3 expert will chime in on how necessary that modification was.

Re: BF Goodrich Radial TA for C3
My '78 Silver Anniversary was ordered with the 255/60's but due to a shortage the car was delivered without them. The front fenders are roughly ground to accept the 255's. Today I inspected two SA's in Fort Worth. One had the original 255's and the fenders were roughly ground. The second did not have 255's and the fenders were not ground. In late '77 when the 255/60's were introduced I purchased a set of GY 255's for my '77 and mounted them on my YJ-8's. I had slight contact when at full lock but no marking on the tires. The rear came close near the brake lines but did not touch. This was with the FE-7 suspension. Steve- Top

I had 245/60's on my 1974. The fenders were not ground and the tires did not rub. When it came time to replace them I went back to the 225/70's. The ride quality seemed to improve and I think they look more period correct for that model year.- Top
